Special Issue "Beyond the Hermit Kingdom: North Korea’s International Connections Revisited" Out Now!!!

The Korea Europe Review is pleased to announce the publication of Issue No. 10 (2026), Beyond the Hermit Kingdom: North Korea’s International Connections Revisited.

This special issue explores North Korea’s international engagement beyond its relationships with the major powers, highlighting its diplomacy with smaller and middle-power states, cultural outreach, development projects in the Global South, and exchanges with socialist parties and international partners.

By bringing together interdisciplinary perspectives, the volume challenges conventional narratives and demonstrates that the DPRK’s international connections were far more diverse and globally embedded than is often assumed.

We hope this issue will encourage new research on North Korea’s place in global history and international relations!
